Hague/Solterra today announced that it is initiating the next phase in its plan to make high volume synthesis of tetrapod quantum dots a reality.
Up until now, tetrapod quantum dots, as well as other forms of quantum dots, have only been produced in very small, milligram quantities per day, using expensive materials and processing techniques that are laborious and time consuming.

The Problems
High energy costs, dependence on foreign oil, unstable governments, the threat of global warming and increased greenhouse gases, we know the problems but we have not done enough to solve them…until now.

The Solution
SOLAR ENERGY- no carbon emissions, unlimited supply and available to all. This renewable source is one of the answers to energy independence, but has been expensive to implement. Enter Quantum Dots. These "mega-molecules" of semiconducting materials are smaller than living cells. Q.D.'s interact with light in unique ways to give off different colored light or to create electrons and holes, due partly to their tiny size, partly to their shape and partly to the material from which they are made. Using proprietary technologies, Solterra will manufacture very low cost solar cells utilizing Quantum Dot Technology for less than the cost of conventional solar cells.

This new Q.D. production technique, developed by Dr. Michael Wong of Rice University has been acquired by Solterra Renewable Technologies, Inc. By applying this proprietary, low cost production technology to the manufacture of Q.D.'s and applying it to Solar Energy Cells, the cost of solar generated electricity is reduced to little more than grid price at today's electricity prices…and with Grid prices expected to increase by more than 50% over the next five years, energy using the Quantum Dot Technology will not only cost less but can also be good for the environment!
